Dananananaykroyd @ KCLSU, London 04/11/11

It’s quite the spectacle watching an entire room of strangers simultaneously hugging to the music of Dananananaykroyd

Niki & The Dove – The Drummer EP (Sub Pop Records)

The Swedish duo are back with their second EP of the year, pounding our eardrums and any resistance to their charms to a pulp with ‘The Drummer’.

Tori Amos – Night of Hunters (Deutsche Grammophon)

Night of the Hunters is a modern masterpiece but likely to bore those who don’t have an appreciation for classical music.

Tribes @ Electric Ballroom, London 28/10/11

Overall they played with gusto and fervour but couldn’t live up to the one missing ingredient: original-sounding, well-written material.

Trophy Wife – Bruxism (Blessing Force)

Through the measured use of their talents here, Trophy Wife have created a confident and refreshing collection of songs

Summer Camp – Welcome To Condale (Apricot/Moshi Moshi)

Lyrically and musically there seems to be an American teenage romance feel to a lot of the songs on the album, like they belong in a John Hughes movie.

Ben Howard – Every Kingdom (Island)

Let’s hope we see more of this type of man, as well as music, and kick to touch the egotists who feel that we need them and they don’t need us.

T H E S L O W D O W N & Little Comets @ The Garage, 19/10/11

The Slowdown certainly held their own, and for first onstage the group’s performance was not far off from that of a headline set.

Jens Lekman – An Argument with Myself (Secretly Canadian)

A welcome comeback from the Gothenburg local, thank goodness he decided that bingo calling wasn’t his actual, um, calling!

M83 – Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (Mute)

‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’ is a lengthy album and one that needs you to empty your head, sit down and be patient before you can fully absorb it.
