Emerging Artists #40 – Splashh

August 6, 2012 by

We recently headed down to the sweaty basement of Birthdays in Dalston to watch London’s latest buzz-band Splashh. Having only played their first gig in May we didn’t have much hope for their live show, but luckily we were wrong. As they charged through their lo-fi set what quickly became apparent was their ability to write effortlessly infectious songs, which should see them rise up from the basements of East London in no time at all.

How did you get together, where you from and why did you decide to make music together?

Sasha and I spent the summer in Australia at my parents house in Byron Bay and started recording some songs for fun. A month later we were back in London writing/recording our first batch of songs. We booked our first show in May and recruited our close friends Tom Beal (bass) and Jacob Moore (drums) to start playing live as a full band. Jacob arrived from the other side of the world only a few days before our show (possibly the longest commute to a band practice ….ever) haha

What’s behind the band’s sound and how did you come to it?

It wasn’t really something that was thought out, it just kinda happened. We like to fuse happy and sad, heavy and dreamy…. We want to make people feel dizzy.

What equipment are you using for recording, and is there any particular reason behind the choice?

It’s a fully basic set-up in my bedroom. A guitar, a microphone and a tambourine plus a little bit of outback wizardry.

Where was the band’s first show and what was it like?

Our first show was on Wednesday May 2nd, upstairs and The Garage in London. Jacob had just arrived from the other side of the world on the Monday having never played with us before! It was a little nerve racking but we had plenty of mates cheering us on… It was sick!

What’s been your favourite gig you’ve played?

We opened for Girls Names at the Green Door Store in Brighton and it was cool! Not a huge crowd but the vibe was right :D

What can people expect when they come to your live shows?

We don’t have fancy costumes or bells, whistles or strippers or anything….. ha.. Come and check it out for yourself! We just go hard and play our songs and have fun!

Do you have any confirmed plans for an album yet and if so what can we expect?

Nothing in concrete at the moment but it’s all we thinking about right now. Can’t wait to spend some time in a studio. Hopefully in Spain or Cali or somewhere where the sun is shining!

If you could get one band to reform who would it be?

The Spice Girls!

What’s up next for the band?

Currently on the road with Howler (literally sitting in the van now). As well as playing our first bunch of headline shows and festival slots around the U.K.  We’re releasing a 7″ single on LuvLuvLuv Records on the 30th of July. A side is ‘Need It’ with Headspins on the flip. Get a copy!! Over and OUT!
