Gorillaz Announced As U2′s Replacements at Glastonbury

Following the news yesterday that U2 have been forced to pull out of their Friday night headline slot at this year’s Glastonbury festival, organisers have just announced that Gorillaz will take their place.

Michael Eavis said of bagging Damon Albarn’s cartoon simians, ‘This is going to be Gorilllaz’ only UK festival appearance, and it’ll be a massive audio visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse, then Stevie Wonder to follow.’

He continued, ‘I’m very excited about Gorillaz’ show coming here because they’re so open to guests and collaborations. The alchemy of Friday’s show is going to be astonishing: a perfect, contemporary way to kick off the 40th anniversary celebrations.’

Speculation had been rife over who was to replace U2, with Coldplay leading the bets, but the surprise addition means the headline acts now read like this; Gorillaz, Muse and Stevie Wonder

Murdoc from Gorillaz had this to say about stepping in for U2: ‘We’re like some great big horrible warship pulling in to the Bay of Glastonbury to save the day… Glastonbury will be ours…cutlasses drawn, trumpets ready. We’re coming in…’
