Paul Weller, The xx, Wild Beasts Named In Mercury Music Prize 2010 Shortlist

July 20, 2010 by

It’s that time of year again, the shortlist for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize has been announced this morning and this time it is surprisingly predicatble.

The names of the 12 acts nominated for the 2010 prize were revealed this morning at a press conference at London’s Hospital Club, and sadly we was not invited – no that we would of been out of bed in time anyway.

As we’ve already said, it has been pretty predictable this year with The XX, Wild Beasts, Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling and Foals all nominated.

The only surprise is the inclusion of Mr Weller and Corinne Bailey Rae, who both made good records, but can hardly be considered as the cutting edge of British music – not as bad as M People though!

The 2010 Barclaycard Mercury Prize shortlist is:

Biffy Clyro – ‘Only Revolutions’
Corinne Bailey Rae – ‘The Sea’
Dizzee Rascal – ‘Tongue N’ Cheek’
Kit Downes Trio – ‘Golden’
Foals – ‘Total Life Forever’
I Am Kloot – ‘Sky At Night’
Laura Marling – ‘I Speak Because I Can’
Mumford And Sons – ‘Sigh No More’
Paul Weller – ‘Wake Up The Nation’
Villagers – ‘Becoming A Jackal’
Wild Beasts – ‘Two Dancers’
The XX – ‘XX’

The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on September 7.
