Carolina Liar – Show Me What I’m Looking For (Atlantic) 01/06/09

Carolina Liar are a transatlantic six-piece championed by Max Martin, the broken mind responsible for inflicting Pink, Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson on an unsuspecting world. Chad Wolfe joins Swedes Erik Hääger, Johan Carlsson, Rickard Göransson, Jim Almgren Gandara, and Max Grahn to form one of the worst bands you will ever hear.

As you would suspect from such a sinister introduction, “Show Me What I’m Looking For” is absolutely awful. Just awful. Absolute Radio will love it. Imagine, if you can, the ridiculously camp vocals of The Feeling. Add overblown string accompaniment, piercing keyboards and a church bell. Yes, thats right. A church bell. On a single released on June 1st. Did I mention the soulful gospel choir finale?

As Chad Wolf asks the middle-aged ladies in the audience to “Show Me What I’m Looking For”, one can only hope someone does the decent thing and offers him a pistol with one bullet.

Musically shallow, emotionally bankrupt and cynically constructed, Carolina Liar are proof that even Scandinavians can get it wrong sometimes.
