Dutch Uncles – The Ink (Love & Disaster Records)

September 25, 2011 by

Dutch Uncles came to rise earlier this year with the release of their debut album ‘Cadenza’, as expected, a fairly moderate album that received pretty average reviews. However, the arrival of ‘The Ink’ as a single has been a long time coming and a second listen to it might cause them to go up in a lot of people’s books.

A great pop tune with a core that wouldn’t sound out of place on any Foals album, the calming vocals of Duncan Wallis, and above all a cracking video containing the band’s morning routines. Dutch Uncles’ influences really come through on this track with the vocals and build up mimicking that of The Smiths, and yes, doing them justice.

It seems Egyptian Hip Hop and Wu Lyf aren’t the only Mancunians heading somewhere big.
