Jessie Ware – Strangest Feeling (PMR Records)

November 26, 2011 by

Jessie Ware has up until now mostly been seen beside the decks of Joker and SBTRKT. On her debut single Strangest Feeling she proves that she can do pretty well on her own.

Strangest Feeling is smooth, with low, cold synths carrying Jessie’s impressive vocals. It’s sombre pop with those vague r’n'b references that makes a song more sexy than sad and it’s perfect for the coming winter. The song is written with help of friend and artist Sampha, who Jessie has previously released songs with as well.

Her debut is definitely a step in a new direction, compared to singing over Joker’s dubstep at the Boiler Room. With such a unique voice, it’s nice to see her go more in the direction of James Blake than namesake Jessie J.

Currently recording her debut album set for release next spring on PMR Records, the South London girl’s debut single neatly arrives moments before the blogs start churning out “ones to watch”-lists for 2012. You’d be silly not to add.
