The National – Bloodbuzz Ohio (4AD) 03/05/2010

May 5, 2010 by

The National has been making gloomy, yet strangely uplifting music for over ten years now and with their latest offering they certainly haven’t lost their knack. Bloddbuzz Ohio is driven by an immediate beat twinned with Matt Berninger’s usual plaintive yearning and narrative. This time Berringer’s gloomy tale is wrapped in minimal piano harmonies and melacnholic strings, which gives the song extra depth and tension before soaring of into the distance.

Bloodbuzz Ohio will not come as a surprise to fans and will certainly evoke the usual feelings. With the Brooklyn band’s fifth album, High Violet, on its way, it looks like it will be business as usual – and all the better for it.
